Research Sources and Journals

There is an extremely wide variety of material on the Internet, ranging in its accuracy, reliability, and value. Unlike most traditional information media (books, magazines, organizational documents), no one has to approve the content before it is made public. It's your job as a searcher, then, to evaluate what you locate, in order to determine whether it suits your needs.

There are a number of good sources to help you write your term or research paper. An excellent sources is provided by

    The most encyclopedic source of narrative and financial industry analysis is Standard and Poor’s Corp. (S&P). It offers a wide variety of publications that could be useful to anyone engaged in business research.

    The Wall Street Journal is one of the most frequently consulted financial dailies in the United States. It provides much more than just securities quotations; nevertheless, the detailed financial tables are one main reason for its popularity. The data are provided by a variety of sources.

    Despite its academic roots, Harvard Business Review has matured into an excellent market magazine. It is very useful for perusing erudite topics and issues of recent interest in the business environment. Its layout, language, and format are done in a user-friendly and pleasing manner.

    Dedicated to business periodicals. Look up almost any subject matter in business and if it’s been written about you should find the citations and an annotation of the article.

    GPO Access is the standard summery of statistics on the social, political, and economic organization of the United States. It is designed to serve as a convenient volume for statistical publications and sources.

    Sales & Marketing Management is a well-formatted publication with good articles about marketing and management, good editing and useful "how-to" inserts and all business students should be familiar with its contents.

    The editors of American Management Association tout themselves as "America’s number one publication on successful business management". They do this each month by offering interviews, practical case studies, and in-depth articles about surviving and prospering in the business world.
  • http://www.economist.com 
    A business news publication edited for senior management and policy makers in finance, industry, and government in the United State and throughout the world. Economist is an excellent analytical source that should be familiar to all business researchers.

    Search Engine Watch provides a guide to the major search engines of the web. "Why are these considered to be "major" search engines? Because they are either well-known or well-used."
