Accounting:
Professional Organizations

As you progress in your accounting studies and prepare for a career in accounting, you'll want to connect with others in the field. Professional accounting organizations provide a place to network with accounting professionals, opportunities to learn about the latest trends in the field, and information on scholarships and internships. Links to the web sites for some of the accounting organizations are provide here.

CCSU School of Business Professional Organizations:
There are a variety of professional organizations and clubs in the School of Business that offer students opportunities to meet new people, have some fun, and expand their professional and personal experiences. These clubs are an important part of the college learning experience and provide benefits beyond the time spent in school. Below is a list of the organizations and a brief description.

Accounting Club
The Accounting Club is available to accounting majors and anyone else who might be interested in learning more about the accounting profession. Monthly meetings provide the opportunity to interact with professional speakers from various accounting-related areas. The club also takes field trips to area businesses, accounting firms, government agencies, and professional meetings. Other social opportunities abound! For further information contact James Bagwell, the faculty advisor at JamesBagwell@mail.clayton.edu, and for the website click here.

Society for Advancement of Management (SAM)
Established in 1912, The Society for Advancement of Management (SAM) is a non-profit organization that focuses on general management skills and believes that every individual interested in management should belong to SAM in addition to any other association in his/her area of specialization. The Mission Statement of SAM is: “To provide an opportunity for the members to increase management skills and expertise through participation in programs and services designed to improve the professional quality of their knowledge, performance, and leadership ability.”  SAM is well-known: John F. Kennedy in an August 19, 1963 letter to SAM stated, “It is to managers who grow with the needs and resources of their times that we must continue to look to for the new ideas and their implementation to meet the challenge of the future.” Being an active member in the SAM’s Chapter at CCSU gives you such an opportunity.  For additional information, please contact Michael Deis, the faculty advisor at MichaelDeis@mail.clayton.edu , and for the website click here.

Sigma Beta Delta (SBD)
SBD is the International Honor Society for Business, Management, and Administration. Its sole purpose is to recognize the top students, based on grade point average, within these fields. The Clayton College and State University chapter invites the top 10 percent of School of Business juniors and the top 20 percent of School of Business seniors to become members. New members are inducted into the chapter and national society at the annual initiation ceremony each spring. Current members are invited to the annual ceremony along with the parents and spouses of the new initiates. The inductees receive a certificate of lifetime membership and a lapel pin. Sigma Beta Delta members may also rent or buy a distinctive sash to wear at their graduation from Clayton College and State University. The cost of the lifetime membership is currently $40.00. There are not further membership related cost, fees, or dues. The cost of the sash is $50.00 to buy and $10.00 to rent. A $50 cash (not check) deposit is required for rented sashes, of which $40.00 is refunded to the graduate upon the return of the sash. SBD is strictly an honor society, not a fraternity or social club. As indicated above, Sigma Beta Delta  exists only to recognize academic achievement in the fields of Business, Management, and Administration. There are not meetings or social functions.
