Dr. Lou Jourdan Selected as Fulbright Scholar
Dr. Lou
Jourdan was recently selected as the University's
Fulbright Scholar. His June and July 2008 trip
to Hungary and the Czech Republic will focus on
the interrelationship between tradition and change
in the context of Hungary and the Czech Republic.
Academic and cultural
learning
will be interwoven with lectures, presentations,
workshops, meetings, travel, guided tours, and other
activities. The seminar will deal with challenges to
economic development, explore the relationship
between culture and social structure and enable
participants to gain insights into the contributions
of people of the two countries in the areas of art,
architecture, music, dance, and drama. Major sites
to be visited will include: Budapest, Prague,
Debrecen, Pecs, Kunta Hora, and Karlovy Vary.
SAM Chapter Places 3rd in Competition
On Saturday, April 5, 2008, the CSU Chapter of the
Society for the Advancement of Management placed third
in the undergraduate students’ division competition for
the James Rutherford Trophy.
The competition was held
during the 2008 SAM International Business Conference in
Arlington, Virginia. The team consisted of Heather
Crumbley (Accounting major), Steven Gabel (Management
major), and Michael Ivie (General Business major).
Advisor, Dr. Lari Arjomand and Co-Advisor, Reza
Kheirandish led the Clayton State University delegation
to the conference.
Dr. Anita Whiting and Mary Alice Gladin Receive University-wide Honor
Dr. Anita Whiting, Assistant Professor of Marketing,
was a finalist for the 2008 Alice
Smith
Faculty Award. Faculty are peer nominated and the
finalists are chosen by a university-wide committee.
According to Dean Jacob Chacko, "Anita was nominated
because she embodies the School's mission to excel in
teaching, research, and service." Mary Alice
Gladin, the School's Administrative Assistant was
nominated for the Alice
Smith
Staff Award. When asked about being a finalist,
she remarked, "Being nominated is a very humbling
experience...I just sincerely enjoy being a small part
of Clayton State. I am truly blessed that they
[faculty and students] allow me to have a part of their
lives."
Professor Chosen to Teach in European Council Program
Dr. Nikki Finlay, a School of Business
economist,
was chosen by the European Council Representatives to
teach in Bonn, Germany in the summer of 2009. She
will be teaching Economics to a group of German and
American students. According to Dean Jacob Chacko,
"Nikki is very deserving of this honor and programs like
this will aid the School in developing it's
internationalization efforts."
